The village church in Pinnow , a residential area in the Hohen Neuendorf district of Borgsdorf , is a brick building built in the neo-Romanesque style from the 19th century.

prehistory

The first written evidence of a church in Pinnow comes from the year 1597. This church fell into disrepair when, as a result of the Thirty Years' War, Pinnow and the neighboring village of Borgsdorf were completely depopulated. A new half-timbered church was built on the site of the current building in the 1680s. This church was 12 mx 7.5 m in size, had a small tower and was at times a branch church of Heiligensee , Stolpe and Birkenwerder .

Building history

From the middle of the 19th century, there was a strong population growth , mainly due to the building of brickworks in the area and the increasing importance of the Havel as a traffic route. The construction of a representative church began in 1861 under the supervision of the secret building councilor Friedrich August Stüler . A neo-Romanesque hall church with a slim west tower made of yellow Birkenwerder bricks was built on a base made of Rüdersdorfer limestone . The church building, which cost 7,860  thalers , was intended for the Pinnower, the rule of the Pinnower Guts and the Borgsdorf residents who lived on the opposite bank of the Havel. In 1888 the interior was completed with a long organ ; In 1921 a heater was installed. Just a few decades after construction, repairs were repeatedly necessary, which also brought major changes to the architectural style. A false ceiling was put in place in the 1920s.

Since the congregation continued to shrink , also due to the relocation of the center of Borgsdorf to the east to the Berlin Northern Railway , the decision was made in 1971 not to use the church anymore. Almost all of the inventory fell victim to vandalism in the 1980s.

Interior

Entrance door: handle in Gothic style

The most striking piece is a limestone epitaph for the former manor Caspar von Klitzing from 1612, which - like a baptismal font from 1613 - was taken over from the first church building.

The pulpit figures, which can no longer be found, were re-cast in their original forms in 2004.

One of the original two bronze bells from the 16th century still hangs in the tower. The other fell victim to the non-ferrous metal levy in the First World War .

The organ was destroyed in 1945 and never replaced.

The church today

The Pinnower village church is the older of the two churches in Borgsdorf . In the 1990s, citizens came together to save them from total decline. The roof, the spire and the outer walls of the tower were repaired. A support association was founded in 2002. Since 2005, the Pinnow village church has been the first church for cyclists in Brandenburg (near the Berlin – Copenhagen cycle path ). The church is open on summer weekends. It is also known for its cultural events.

In 2009 the city of Hohen Neuendorf funded the expansion and maintenance of the church with a total of 10,000 euros.
