Alexander Schubert (musician)

Alexander Schubert (* 1979 in Bremen ) is a German composer .

Life

Alexander Schubert studied computer science and biology in Leipzig with a focus on neuroinformatics and cognitive science . At the same time he worked as a musician and composer in various contexts. After working for a year at the Center for Art and Media Technology in Karlsruhe at the Institute for Music and Acoustics, he studied multimedia composition at the Hamburg University of Music and Theater . He completed his studies with a doctorate. Since then he has worked as a freelance composer and lecturer. He teaches at the Hamburg University of Music and is the director of the electronic studio at the Lübeck University of Music.

Schubert is a founding member of the ensembles Decoder, Trnn and “Schubert-Kettlitz-Schwerdt” and Ember.

With "Sinebag" he pursued an experimental, pop music solo project.

Schubert has contributed to various scenic projects as a musician, composer and programmer (e.g. for the play “151 meters above the sea” commissioned by the Wiener Festspielwochen). Alexander Schubert curated the music festival for contemporary electronic music in Leipzig and ran the Ahornfelder-Verlag for experimental audio and book publications.

His pieces have been performed at: Wien Modern, ICMC, SMC, ULTIMA, DLF, IRCAM, ZKM, Blurred Edges, among others.

In 2009 he received the Bourges Residency Prize and Nightshade was awarded in the "Jeu de temps" competition of the Canadian Electroacoustic Community.
