Alexander Sergejewitsch Wassjunow ( Russian Александр Сергеевич Васюнов ; born April 22, 1988 in Yaroslavl , Russian SFSR ; † September 7, 2011 in Tunoschna near Yaroslavl) was a Russian ice hockey player who during his career, among others, with the New Jersey Devils in the national hockey League and Lokomotive Yaroslavl played in the Continental Hockey League .

Alexander Vasyunov began his career as a hockey player in his hometown in the youth division of Lokomotive Yaroslavl , for whose professional team he made his debut in the Russian Super League in the 2005/06 season . Then the winger was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2006 in the second round as a total of 58th player by the New Jersey Devils . First, however, he stayed in his Russian homeland, where he completed two games for Lokomotive Yaroslavl at the beginning of the 2008/09 season in the newly founded Continental Hockey League . Eventually the New Jersey Devils appointed him to their farm team , the Lowell Devils , from the American Hockey League . The 2010/11 season he completed mostly with the Albany Devils in the AHL, but also made his NHL debut in the jersey of the New Jersey Devils during the season.
In July 2011, he returned to his hometown club in Yaroslavl and took part in the club's preparatory program. On September 7, 2011, he was killed in a plane crash near Yaroslavl .
International
For Russia Vasyunov took part in the U18 Junior World Championship in 2006 and the U20 Junior World Championship in 2007 . He also represented his home country in the 2007 Super Series .
