Alexandra Makarová

Alexandra Makarová (* 1985 in Košice ) is a Slovak - Austrian screenwriter and director .

Life

Makarová was born in 1985 into a family of artists from Russia and Greece. Her mother is the painter Saša Makarová . Makarová initially grew up with her grandparents, the painter and screenwriter Štefan Makara, and the screenwriter Soňa Makarová. In 1991 she moved to live with her mother in Vienna .

Makarová studied screenwriting and directing at the Vienna Film College. Her films have been shown at international film festivals. Zerschlag mein Herz , a drama about Slovak Roma begging in Vienna , was her first feature film and won awards for script, directing and Romy for the best production in 2019.

Makarová lives and works as a filmmaker in Vienna and Berlin. Since 2012 she has been in a relationship with the Austrian actor Simon Schwarz , with whom she has a daughter.
