Alexandre Du Sommerard (also Alexandre Dusommerard ; * November 1779 , † August 19, 1842 in Saint-Cloud ) was a French archaeologist and art collector .

Alexandre Dusommerard was born in November 1779. He served as a volunteer in the Revolutionary Wars , joined the Chamber of Accounts as a councilor in 1801 and died on August 19, 1842 in St. Cloud.

In his apartment, the Hôtel Cluny in Paris , he had a sizable collection of medieval equipment and art objects, which the state bought in 1843 and turned into the public Musée de Cluny . Dusommerard made the result of his research known in the magnificent work "Les arts du moyen-âge" (Paris 1839–46, 5 vols. With 510 copperplate engravings).

One of his sons, Edmond Dusommerard (* April 27, 1817, † February 5, 1885) was the curator of the collection until his death and published a catalog about it.
