Alexandre Louis Simon Lejeune , also Alexander Ludwig , (born December 23, 1779 in Verviers , † December 28, 1858 ibid) was a Belgian doctor and botanist. Its official botanical author's abbreviation is “ Lej. "

Live and act

Lejeune, the son of a doctor, studied medicine in Paris from 1801, interrupted from military service (1804, in Holland, Hanover and near Calais), and was then a resident doctor in Verviers.

Together with Richard Courtois (1806–1835) he wrote a Flora of Belgium.

In 1823 he was elected a member of the Leopoldina . In 1831 he became a member of the Royal Academy of Sciences in Brussels. His herbarium came to the Botanical Garden in Brussels.

Honors

The moss genus Lejeunea Lib. And thus also the Lejeuneaceae family are named after him.
