The David Glacier is the largest glacier in the Antarctic Victoria Land . It flows from the northern polar plateau through the Prince Albert Mountains and ends between Cape Philippi and Cape Reynolds in the form of the Drygalski ice tongue protruding into the Ross Sea .
The glacier was discovered by participants in the Nimrod expedition (1907-1909) led by the British polar explorer Ernest Shackleton . It is named after the Australian geologist Tannatt William Edgeworth David (1858-1934), who led the Northern Group on this expedition to successfully search for the location of the Antarctic magnetic pole .
