Alexandre Manuel Costa Ruas

Alexandre Manuel Costa Ruas (born February 11, 1956 in Aldeia Gavinha ) is a former cyclist from Portugal and national champion in cycling .

Athletic career

He started as an amateur at the Lousa club. Ruas (also called Rua in German media) was Portuguese street racing champion in 1979 and 1980 (before Fernando Sousa ) . Several times he won the championship of the Lisbon district . In 1976 he won the points classification and two stages of the Tour of Portugal . A year later he won five stages and again the points classification. He started three times in the International Peace Tour , 21st place in 1981 was his best result. At the most important one-day race in Portugal, Porto – Lisbon ( Porto – Lisboa ) , he won in 1980, 1982 and 1984. He was also successful on the track , so he was Portuguese sprint champion in 1981 . His strength lay in his final pace, with which he was able to win a large number of races in the final sprint. Measured by the number of victories, he was one of the most successful cyclists in Portugal in the 1980s.
