Alexandrine Irene Princess of Prussia (born April 7, 1915 in the Kronprinzenpalais in Berlin ; † October 2, 1980 in Starnberg ) was a member of the House of Hohenzollern .

origin

Alexandrine, called "Adini" in the family circle, was the eldest daughter of Crown Prince Wilhelm of Prussia (1882–1951) and his wife Cecilie Duchess of Mecklenburg-Schwerin (1886–1954), daughter of Grand Duke Friedrich Franz III. and the Grand Duchess Anastasia Mikhailovna Romanova . On her father's side she was a granddaughter of the last German Emperor and King of Prussia, Wilhelm II. On her mother's side, she was a niece of the Danish Queen Alexandrine , who was also called "Adini".

Life

Alexandrine had Down syndrome , which the family dealt with as a matter of course. Alexandrine grew up with her siblings in Potsdam and Oels and from 1932 to 1934 attended the Trüpersche special school in Jena , the first educational institution in Europe dedicated to the school and artistic training of children with cognitive and physical disabilities. In the summer of 1934 she returned to Potsdam; In 1936 she moved to Niederpöcking in Bavaria, where she lived in seclusion during the Second World War . At the end of 1945 she moved into a small house on Lake Starnberg , which she lived in until her death in 1980.

Alexandrine Princess of Prussia was buried in the small family cemetery in the officers 'garden of the St. Michaels Bastion within Hohenzollern Castle, where her parents' graves are also located.
