Alexei Borissowitsch Wenkow ( Russian Алексей Борисович Венков , English transcription Alexei Venkov ; * 1946 ) is a Russian mathematician who teaches in Aarhus .

Wenkow studied at the State University of Leningrad from 1964 to 1969 and received his doctorate there under Ludwig Faddejew in 1973. He then went to the Steklow Institute in Saint Petersburg, where he completed his habilitation in 1980 (Russian doctorate) with the thesis on spectral theory of automorphic functions . In 1990 he took leave of absence there and was visiting scholar at IHES , the University of Göttingen , in Paris (University Paris VI, Ecole Normale Superieure, Institut Henri Poincaré), at MSRI , Stanford University , and several times at the Max Planck Institute for Mathematics in Bonn , at the University of Lille and the University of Aarhus . Since 2001 he has been a lecturer at Aarhus University.

He deals with the spectral theory of automorphic forms and their application in number theory and mathematical physics. He obtained partial results for the Roelcke-Selberg conjecture.

In 1983 he was invited speaker at the International Congress of Mathematicians in Warsaw ( The spectral theory of automorphic functions for Fuchsian groups of the first kind and its applications to some classical problems of the monodromy theory ). In 2006 he received the Humboldt Research Award .
