Alexei Jurjewitsch Meschkow ( Russian Алексей Юрьевич Мешков ; born August 22, 1959 in Moscow ) is a Russian ambassador .

Meschkow is the ambassador of the Russian government of Vladimir Putin in Italy , since February 27, 2004 ambassador to San Marino , since September 2, 2006 representative of the Russian government to the Food and Agriculture Organization and to the World Food Program of the United Nations in Rome .

In 1981 Meshkov graduated from the Moscow State Institute for International Relations and entered the Soviet Union's foreign service . From 1981 to 1986 he was attaché and later third-class embassy secretary in Madrid . Between 1982 and 1992 he was promoted to second and first class secretary in Moscow and headed the scientific and technical cooperation department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and from 1992 to 1997 there were further promotions in Madrid.

From 1997 to 1998 he was Deputy Head of the European Department in the Foreign Ministry, then until 2001 he headed the Political Affairs department of the Foreign Ministry and was a member of the Presidium of the Foreign Ministry. From September 6, 2001 to January 20, 2004, he was Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation. In this capacity, he appointed the French ambassador Claude Blanchemaison on October 27, 2002 , because Chechens had met in a Parisian theater the day before .
