Alexei Jurjewitsch Solodownikow ( Russian Алексей Юрьевич Солодовников , born December 16, 1970 in Krasnodar ) is a Russian entomologist . His research focus is on recent and fossil short-winged species (Staphylinidae).

Life

Already in his childhood, Solodownikov collected and drew beetles in his home region of Krasnodar . In 1993 he graduated from the Kuban State University with a Masters degree. To this end, he studied the ecology and biology of the ear beetle in the northwest of the Caucasus . In 1997, he received his PhD as a candidate in entomology from the Saint Petersburg State University . In preparation for his dissertation , he studied together with Alexander Anatoljewitsch Stekolnikow and Wladimir Igorewitsch Gussarow the taxonomy , fauna , biogeography and bionomy of the short-winged birds in the northwestern Caucasus region. From 1997 to 2001 he was a research assistant and from 2001 to 2002 he was a research assistant at the Zoological Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences in Saint Petersburg . From 2002 to 2007 he completed his postdoctoral phase as a research fellow at the entomological department of the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago . From 2007 to 2012 he worked as a research assistant at the Field Museum of Natural History. In May 2007 he became curator of the beetle collection at the Statens Naturhistoriske Museum in Copenhagen and lecturer at the University of Copenhagen . He has been an associate professor since 2010.

To Solodownikows priorities include the phylogeny and revisions at the species level by little-known lineages of Rove, in particular within the Staphylinae and related subfamilies, taxonomic, phylogenetic and biogeographic studies of selected Kurzflüglergruppen that eco faunistics of Kurzflügler- and other groups of beetles, especially in the Palaearctic as well as data integration in systematic entomology.

Solodownikow also dealt with the taxonomy and faunistics of the genera Ocypus , Quedius , Othius and the subfamilies Paederinae and Omaliinae (with the genera Psephidonus and Deliphrosoma ) of Russia and neighboring regions (especially the Caucasus).
