Alexei Tichonowitsch Wassiljew
Alexei Tichonowitsch Wassiljew ( Russian Алексей Тихонович Васильев ; scientific transliteration Aleksej Tichonovič Vasil'ev ; born March 21, 1869 in Kiev ; died December 31, 1928 in Saint-Michel-sur-Orge (near Paris )) was a Russian and senior police officer.
He was the last police director of Tsarist Russia , d. H. the Director of the Police Department of the Ministry of Interior of the Russian Empire ( Departament Polizii MWD Rossii ), who in this post is responsible for all police forces in the Russian Empire including the Ochrana - d. H. the political police or secret police - was.
Life
Alexei Tichonowitsch Wassiljew was born in Kiev in 1869. He studied law at the Imperial University of St. Vladimir and then worked in the judiciary for the public prosecutor in Kiev and later at the St. Petersburg District Court.
1916–1917 he was director of the police department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Empire (Russian Министерство внутренних дел Российской империи; short: MWD), the last in this office. Among other things, he investigated the murder of Grigory Rasputin . During the February Revolution he was arrested and taken to the ministerial pavilion of the Tauride Palace . In 1917 he was first held in the Peter and Paul Fortress , then in Kresty Prison . He was questioned by the Extraordinary Commission of Inquiry of the Provisional Government . In 1919 he emigrated to France via Hungary , Czechoslovakia and Germany . He is buried in the Russian cemetery of Sainte-Geneviève-des-Bois .
