Alfeus Island (English; Bulgarian остров Алфеус ostrow Alfeus ) is a rocky island in the west-southwest-east-northeast orientation 310 m long and 120 m wide off the north coast of Smith Island in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . It is located 0.66 km northwest of Cape Smith , 3.7 km east-northeast of Delyan Point and 1.06 km east-southeast of Barlow Island .
Bulgarian scientists mapped them in 2009 and 2018. The Bulgarian Commission for Antarctic Geographical Names named them in 2018 after the trawler Alfeus , who used to fish in the waters around South Georgia , around the Kerguelen , around the southern one from the 1970s to the early 1990s Orkney Islands , the South Shetland Islands and the Antarctic Peninsula .
