Alfons Satzger

Alfons Satzger (born November 8, 1899 in Unterauerbach , † March 19, 1978 in Steingaden ) was a German Catholic theologian.

Career

Satzger studied philosophy and theology in Dillingen on the Danube and was ordained a priest in 1925 . His chaplain years led him to the parish church of St. Martin in Kaufbeuren. In the ten years of his work he was particularly involved in youth work. He initiated the construction of the Martinsheim in 1929/30 to accommodate the students of the then Realschule and Progymnasium as well as the apprentices and agricultural students.

In 1935 he was appointed diocesan youth pastor in the diocese of Augsburg . Because of his involvement in the formulation of pamphlets and information leaflets against National Socialist church policy, he was arrested several times and finally expelled from southern Germany in 1939. He found refuge in the Benedictine Abbey of Neresheim . In 1940 he volunteered for military service as a military chaplain. He was seriously wounded on the Eastern Front and released from the army in 1942.

In 1946 he came to the Wieskirche in Steingaden as a pilgrimage priest and curator . He initiated the renovation of the church and canceled the pilgrimage. He also took over the management of the youth home there. In 1950 he was a co-founder of the first Catholic rural adult education center in Bavaria.
