Alfons Väth

Alfons Väth (* 1874 in Werbachhausen , † 1937 in Bonn ) was a German Jesuit and historian.

From 1899 to 1903 he worked in Bombay , India . From 1910 to 1916 he was professor of English and Indian history at St. Xavier's College in Bombay. From 1918 to 1925 Väth was the editor of the magazine The Catholic Missions . He has published over 80 books and numerous articles in scientific journals.

His best-known work is the biography Johann Adam Schall von Bell SJ , published in 1933 : Missionary in China, Imperial Astronomer and Counselor at the Court of Beijing 1592–1666 , which appeared in a new edition in 1991.
