Alfonso Cortina de Alcocer (born March 13, 1944 in Madrid , † April 6, 2020 in Toledo ) was a Spanish manager .

Life

Alfonso Cortina was the grandson of the former Mayor of Madrid Alberto Alcocer y Ribacoba and son of the former Foreign Minister of Spain Pedro Cortina Mauri . His younger brother was the businessman Alberto Cortina . He studied industrial engineering at the Polytechnic University of Madrid and economics at the Complutense University of Madrid .

From 1968 to 1984 he worked in various managerial positions at Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria and Banco Hispano Americano. In 1984 he became Vice President of Banco Hispano Hipotecario and from 1985 he was President of the real estate company Sociedad de tasación. Until 1996 he was chairman of the commission of delegates of Portland Valderrivas, SA He was elected chairman of the board of the Spanish oil company Repsol in 1996. He was succeeded in 2004 by Antonio Brufau .

After acquiring a farm in 1993, he converted it into a winery and, after leaving the business world, devoted himself to managing the estate.

On April 6, 2020, Cortina died at the age of 76 during the COVID-19 pandemic in Spain as a result of a SARS-CoV-2 infection.
