Alfonso Michel Martínez

Alfonso Michel Martínez (* 1897 in Colima ; † 1957 in Mexico City ) was an important Mexican artist.

Alfonso Michel was born in the Mexican city of Colima in 1897 . In 1921 he moved first to the Mexican capital and then to San Francisco , California . There he began his artistic training. In 1923 he visited several countries in Europe and then spent two years in Florence . He lived in Paris from 1925 to 1930 , but later returned to Mexico. In Guadalajara he painted with Jesus Guerrero Galván and other artists. He was also responsible for some decorations in the University of Guadalajara . He later gave up art in order to retire to his estate in Colima , only to start painting again shortly afterwards. He exhibited his pictures in 1945 in the Galería de Arte Mexicano in Mexico City. The high point of his career was an exhibition in Paris in 1950. In 1957 he died in Mexico City .
