Alfred Christern
Alfred Christern (born May 22, 1856 in Geesthacht ; † April 30, 1929 in Lübeck ) was a German mayor in Hemelingen, then Prussia .
Life
Christern was the son of a farmer. He completed an agricultural training and was an economic administrator on various estates in Ostholstein . After his military service, he worked as an estate inspector in East Prussia until 1881 . From 1883 he ran his father's farm. In addition, he was also head of the Gülzow district in the Prussian district of the Duchy of Lauenburg .
Hemelingen was looking for a full-time community leader for the first time in 1903/04. The industrially up-and-coming town had around 7,000 inhabitants at that time. The conservative Christian was selected from 170 applicants. From 1904 to 1922 he was the mayor of Hemelingen. He built up the municipal administration, arranged the local planning, completed the expansion of the sewer system and the Weser harbor and had several roads built. During his time, the Hemelingen town hall was built in 1906 .
He spent his retirement in Lübeck.
