Alfred Führböter

Alfred Führböter (born March 26, 1931 in Hamburg ; † May 19, 1992 in Braunschweig ) was a German engineering scientist .

Life

Alfred Führböter began his scientific career around 1952 when he studied civil engineering at the Technical University of Hanover . His first publications were made in 1958 while he was still studying at the Franzius Institute for Foundation and Hydraulic Engineering. For his doctorate as Dr.-Ing. In 1961 he presented a dissertation entitled On the promotion of sand-water mixtures in pipelines . In his habilitation thesis in 1966 he dealt with the subject of the pressure surge caused by breakers on embankments .

After Führböter was appointed professor for hydromechanics and coastal hydraulic engineering at the Leichweiß Institute for Hydraulic Engineering at the Technical University Carolo-Wilhelmina in Braunschweig on April 1, 1971 , he was able to realize his idea of ​​building the Great Wave Canal in 1983. Führböter's scientific work was mainly oriented towards practical issues. He anticipated future developments, such as the increasing frequency of storm surges and accelerated sea level rise, and dealt with them in several publications.

Since 1989 he has been a full member of the Braunschweig Scientific Society .
