Alfred Gilks

Alfred Gilks (born December 29, 1891 in California , † September 6, 1970 in Hollywood ) was an American cameraman who was awarded the Oscar for best cameraman in 1952 for An American in Paris .

Gilks ​​worked as head cameraman from 1920 and was behind the camera on about 40 silent films by 1928 . When he switched to sound film , he was able to continue his career seamlessly until 1939, during which time he shot a. a. two films by Dr. Kildare series .

In 1947 he continued his work. His most famous films were made by 1956. For Vincente Minnelli's An American in Paris , he and John Alton received the Oscar for Best Cinematography in 1952 . After winning the Academy Award, he stopped working much as a cameraman. The last film he was involved in is John Ford's The Black Hawk as part of the Second Unit .
