Alfred Koerppen

Alfred Koerppen (born December 16, 1926 in Wiesbaden ) is a German composer.

Life

Alfred Koerppen's father was a conductor, so that he became familiar with music at an early age. At the age of six he received his first music lessons. He composed his own compositions while he was still at school and received lessons in composition and music theory from Kurt Thomas at the Musisches Gymnasium in Frankfurt am Main . After the war Koerppen initially worked as an organist and music teacher in Frankfurt. In 1946 the first works were published and he was commissioned to compose. In 1948 Koerppen was appointed to a teaching position at the State Music School in Hanover. In 1960 followed a one-year stay in the Villa Massimo in Rome . In 1967 he received the professorship for composition and music theory at the Hanover University of Music and Theater . Since 1970 he has also worked internationally, for example as a visiting professor at the Shanghai Music Academy. In 1983 Koerppen received the Lower Saxony Prize for Culture.

Alfred Koerppen lives in Burgdorf near Hanover.
