Alfred Kollmar

Alfred Kollmar (* 1886 in Besigheim , † 1937 in Worpswede ) was a German painter .

In 1919 Kollmar settled in Worpswede near Bremen . Most of his works have been preserved there, in private hands.

Kollmar belonged "to the core of a small group of Worpswede Expressionists with a stylistically idiosyncratic and mysterious painting that was fed by his inner feelings, fears and visions and found the language of Expressionism as a means of expression." During the Nazi era , his work was kept silent . He was banned from the group exhibitions in Worpswede. In 1937 he put  an end to his life - also because of the ostracism by the National Socialists . He was buried in the grave of the Kollmar family in the old cemetery in Besigheim.
