Alfred Kunz

Alfred Kunz (born June 26, 1894 in Vienna ; † August 2, 1961 there ) was an Austrian film architect , set and costume designer. He received the City of Vienna Prize for Fine Arts in 1949 in the “Applied Art” category .

Life

Kunz worked as a freelance architect from 1918, and from 1922 as a set designer and set designer for many Viennese theaters. Kunz also worked early for film and was influential as a fashion illustrator. From 1938 to 1945 Kunz was artistic director of the “Vienna House of Fashion” in the Lobkowitz Palace and was significantly involved in the 1939 transformation of the Vienna Women's Academy into a fashion school for the City of Vienna . Kunz, who was the first director of the fashion school that was re-established in Schloss Hetzendorf from 1945 to 1955 , also built up the current fashion collection of the Wien Museum .
