Alfred Mathias Concina (born March 25, 1919 in Oelsnitz; † October 29, 2012 ) was an SS-Unterscharfuhrer of the 16th SS Panzergrenadier Division "Reichsführer SS" who was involved in the massacre in the Italian village of Sant ' on August 12, 1944 Anna di Stazzema was involved.

Concina, who was a member of the NSDAP , joined the SS in 1943 with the rank of sergeant after having previously served in the Air Force . In July 1943 he was injured in the shoulder by a shrapnel and after his recovery he was transferred to the SS Division Totenkopf . He then joined the 7th Company of the 16th SS Panzer Grenadier Division "Reichsführer SS".

2002 opened the military prosecutor's office in La Spezia proceedings against alleged perpetrators of the massacre in Sant'Anna di Stazzema. This only became possible after the files, which had already been set up after the end of the Second World War, had been kept in the so-called closet of shame for a long time . In 2004 the trial began at the La Spezia Military Tribunal. In the same year Richter admitted in an interview with the journalist Christine Kohl that he had been in Sant'Anna di Stazzema during the war.

On June 22, 2005 Concina, Karl Gropler , Gerhard Sommer , Alfred Schöneberg , Werner Bruß , Heinrich Schendel , Ludwig Heinrich Sonntag , Georg Rauch , Gerhard Sommer and Ludwig Göring were sentenced to life imprisonment and compensation in absentia. The judgment was upheld in 2006 by the Court of Appeal in Rome in the second instance and in 2007 by the Supreme Court of Cassation in the third and last instance. Through his testimony at an interrogation by the military court in La Spezia, he was not only a defendant, but also a witness. Concina was also the only defendant to speak out in front of the media.

In Germany, an investigation against Concina has been taking place since 2002, but the proceedings were ultimately dropped.

Until his death, Concina lived in a senior citizens' home in Freiberg , which had been the scene of several demonstrations by anti-fascist and neo-Nazi groups since it became known.
