Alfred Sageder
Alfred Sageder (born September 29, 1933 in Gramastetten ; † 2017 ) was an Austrian rower who won two medals in three Olympic competitions.
Career
Alfred Sageder won two medals at the European Rowing Championships in Bled in 1956. In the two with helmsman , he took third place together with Josef Kloimstein and helmsman Franz König behind the boats from the Federal Republic of Germany and Switzerland. In the two without a helmsman, Sageder and Kloimstein were only defeated by the Soviet rowers Igor Buldakow and Viktor Ivanov . At the Olympic Games in 1956 , Sageder and Kloimstein started in both boat classes. In twos with they were eliminated in the semi-finals, in twos without they reached the final and took third place behind the Americans James Fifer and Duvall Hecht as well as Buldakow and Ivanov.
In 1957 Kloimstein and Sageder won silver again in the two-mans without at the European Championships in Duisburg, this time behind the British Christopher Davidge and David Leadley. Two years later, the two Austrians finished third at the European Championships in Mâcon. At the Olympic Games in Rome in 1960 , Kloimstein and Sageder also competed in pairs without and won silver behind the Soviet boat with Valentin Boreiko and Oleg Golowanow . Four years later, Sageder and Kloimstein competed in the Olympic Games for the third time. At the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 1964, they started with helmsman Peter Salzbacher in a pair with helmsman and finished eighth.
The only 1.81 meters tall Alfred Sageder started for the rowing club Donau Linz . His two sons Michael and Siegfried Sageder also became rowers. In addition, one of his grandchildren ( Sebastian Sageder ) won the world title in the foursome.
