Alfred Stückelberger
Alfred Stückelberger (born January 20, 1935 in Seuzach ) is a Swiss classical philologist . He is an emeritus honorary professor at the University of Bern and head of the Ptolemy Research Center .
Life
Stückelberger studied classical philology at the Universities of Basel and Kiel from 1954 to 1961 . In 1961 he received his doctorate in Basel with the dissertation “Seneca's 88th Letter on the Value and Unworthiness of the Free Arts” (published in Heidelberg in 1965). He then worked as a teacher at the grammar school in Bern-Kirchenfeld . In 1977 he became a lecturer in Classical Philology at the University of Bern . After completing his habilitation in 1982, he was made an honorary professor in 1988. In 2000 he was retired.
Stückelberger deals with ancient atomistics , ancient natural science and scientific book illustrations from ancient times.
