Alfred Stoecklin

Alfred Stoecklin (born March 11, 1907 in Basel ; † December 12, 2000 there ) was a Swiss educator and historian .

Life

Alfred Stoecklin, son of a civil and surveying engineer, studied history as well as German and Latin philology in Basel, Freiburg and Paris . In 1932 he received his doctorate in Basel. phil. From 1937 until his retirement in 1973, he taught at the Basel girls' high school on the Kohlenberg.

In addition to his teaching activities, Stoecklin carried out historical research, in particular on the late medieval council movement and the history of Catholicism in Switzerland in the 20th century.

He was also involved in the ecclesiastical and ecumenical field. For many years he was president of the Swiss Association for Christian Culture and in the 1940s he founded the Ecumenical Circle in Basel.
