Julia Gauss

Julia Gauss (born February 19, 1901 in Liestal ; † December 4, 1985 in Wilchingen ) was a Swiss educator and historian .

Life

Julia Gauss was the daughter of the Liestal pastor and local historian Karl Gauss and granddaughter of the architect Hermann Rudolf Gauss . She attended the Liestal district school and then the girls' high school in Basel . After aborting a natural science degree in Geneva , she studied history and languages ​​in Berlin and Basel . In 1931 she was with a dissertation on "The methodological basis of Goethe's historical research" Dr. phil. PhD . From 1927 until her retirement in 1961, she worked as a teacher at the Basel girls' high school .

Alongside and afterwards, she conducted academic studies in the areas of medieval church and philosophy history, Swiss history and European history of the interwar period.

The unmarried Julia Gauss had several bequests in her will for educational and scientific purposes. A street in Basel is named after Julia Gauss.
