Karl Gauss

Karl Otto Gauss (born June 5, 1867 in Basel , † February 8, 1938 in Liestal ) was a Swiss pastor and historian .

Life

Karl Otto Gauss, son of the architect Hermann Rudolf Gauss (including builder of the synagogue in Basel ), studied theology in Basel and Göttingen and was ordained in 1888 . 1892-1897 he was pastor in Benken and then until 1928 in Liestal. 1911–1935 he was also head of the parish convention in Baselland. In addition to his pastoral work, Gauss carried out church and local historical research on the Basel landscape. In 1910 the theological faculty of the University of Basel awarded him an honorary doctorate .

His daughter Julia Gauss became a historian and educator and his son Hermann Gauss became a philosopher and university professor.
