Alfred Vidoudez

Alfred Vidoudez (born March 21, 1879 in Geneva ; † 1943 there ) was a Swiss violin maker .

Life

After an apprenticeship in a Geneva music house, Alfred Vidoudez trained as a violin maker at the French school with Gustave Bazin in Mirecourt . He then worked for two years with Georges Mougenot in Brussels and most recently with Léon Bernadel in Paris for four years . In 1904 he opened his studio in Geneva and in 1910 was appointed violin maker at the Conservatory. His son Pierre Vidoudez worked in his workshop from 1907 and later became his successor and also a master of his craft.

Works

Alfred Vidoudez built his instruments based on the models of Stradivari, Guarneri, Amati, Guadagnini and Montagnana. His works have been awarded medals in Bern and Lyon. He was even called the best Swiss violin maker. Alfred Vidoudez was not only known for his work as a violin maker, but also built excellent guitars of Spanish design. So he built a guitar for Andrés Segovia , a long-time friend and admirer of his works. Segovia's judgment on this guitar, which he also marked with his signature, was "una guitarra estupenda"
