Alfred de Martonne

Alfred de Martonne (born August 30, 1820 in Le Havre , † May 21, 1896 in Laval ) was a French medievalist, Romanist and writer.

Life

Martonne graduated from the École des Chartes in 1843 and was an archivist. From 1848 to 1849 he was a high school teacher in Draguignan , then department archivist, from 1854 to 1866 in Blois , from 1878 in Laval . As a poet he had a particular fondness for the sonnet , whose Provencal origins he was also interested in historically.

Alfred de Martonne was the son of Guillaume-François de Martonne .
