Karl Josef Alfred von Hedenstjerna (born March 12, 1852 , Ryssby (Småland); † October 12, 1906 , Stockholm ; also Hedenstierna ) was a Swedish writer. He also wrote under the pseudonym "Sigurd".

He received his training from his father, an autodidact of old-fashioned scholarship, was a farmer until 1879, made a literary appearance with humorous articles (»kaleidoscope«) in the newspaper »Smålandsposten«, became its editor-in-chief, later its owner and has lived in Stockholm since 1898 . Under the pseudonym »Sigurd«, H. is Sweden's most widely read author, but one that has not received much critical acclaim. He knows how to meet the taste of the large audience with a skilful mixture of humor, sentimentality and comic wit. He knows and characterizes the Swedish petty bourgeoisie like no other, not least through his amazingly natural language. His production capacity seems inexhaustible, and the novels and short stories he sends out annually are so sure of their popularity that they appear in several languages ​​at once. His last book: Svenssons (1903) is one of his most notable achievements, but without surpassing his best work: Statu-Perssons Josua. Most of his works have been published in German, a selection: "Allerlei Menschen", translated by M. Langfeldt (Leipz. 1898, 6 vols.). His best works are contained in the »Character Pictures from Swedish Town Houses«.
