Alfredo Carricaberry (born October 8, 1900 in Colón , † September 23, 1942 in Buenos Aires ) was an Argentine football player . He played much of his career with San Lorenzo de Almagro . He took part with the team in the 1928 Olympic Games in Amsterdam and won the silver medal.

biography

Caricaberry played in the position of right winger and began his career in the youth department of Club Floresta of Buenos Aires. He then moved to Estudianti Porteo. In 1919 he moved to San Lorenzo de Almagro, where he scored 104 goals in 297 games by 1930. This makes him the player with the most appearances for San Lorenzo in fifth place.

In 1920 he made his debut in the Primera División against Racing Club and scored his first goal for San Lorenzo. In 1923 he won the first league title with his club and was also the top scorer on his team. The following year he won the second championship in a row with San Lorenzo.

Carricaberry first played in November 1922 in the Argentina national team against Uruguay . Argentina lost the game 2-1 with Carricaberry scoring the goal for the Argentine team. In 1927 Argentina played two friendly matches against Real Madrid in Buenos Aires. In the second game he scored two goals in Argentina 3-2 victory.

Carricaberry won another league title with San Lorenzo in 1927 and he was again his team's top scorer. He stayed with San Lorenzo until 1932, when he went to his arch-rival Huracán. He played there for one season but only scored one goal. Carricaberry moved to Argentinos Juniors where he ended his career in 1937.

Carricaberry won the Copa America in 1927 with the national team. The following year he won the silver medal at the 1928 Summer Olympics in Amsterdam. Argentina lost the final against Uruguay.

Carricaberry died of a heart attack on February 22, 1942 at the age of 41 .
