The Campeonato Sudamericano of 1927 was the 11th game of the South American continental football championship and took place for the first time in Peru from October 30th to November 27th. Although Peru was the seventh country to join CONMEBOL that year and this tournament was also considered the South America qualification for the 1928 Olympic football tournament in Amsterdam , only four teams took part in this championship. Brazil , Chile and Paraguay stayed away from this soccer tournament.

The championship was played again in the league system (everyone against everyone). If there was a tie in first place, a playoff was planned. All games were played in Lima at the Estadio Guadalupe . At that time the stadium held almost 30,000 spectators.

Argentina became South American champions for the third time in 1927. Argentina and Uruguay qualified for the Olympic football tournament.

Argentina got the chance happy about his third South American title. As expected, the decision was made in the duel against Uruguay, which has only been defeated once in a "Copa". And in this duel it didn't look good for a long time: At the break the team were 1-0 down and five minutes before the end it was still 2-2, which in all probability would not have been enough for Argentina, then redeemed a Uruguayan defender Canavassi own goal, the "Gauchos". The title win could now no longer be taken from the Argentines. Incidentally, the duel Uruguay - Argentina was the first game at the Copa America that was not directed by a South American; The referee was the Englishman David Thurner.

Uruguay experienced an emotional rollercoaster at this tournament. First the highest "Copa" victory of all time with 9-0 against Bolivia and then the unfortunate and decisive own goal in a duel with Argentina. So the "Urus" were only runner-up this year. At least they had the consolation of the Olympic qualification and a year later they took revenge in the Olympic final, where they defeated the Argentines 2-1 in the replay and won the gold medal.

Peru showed the expected performance as a "Copa" newcomer (the game against Uruguay was also Peru's first international match) at home. They didn't have a chance against the "big guys", but at least it was enough to win against neighboring Bolivia, after all after falling 2-0. With that, the Peruvians could look forward to at least third place.

Bolivia again disappointed across the board. Like a year ago, the team had to pay the hard way again. The 9-0 defeat against Uruguay meant a "Copa" record at the time. The Bolivians drew the conclusions from this and decided not to participate in the South American Championship for the next 18 years. They weren't supposed to be back until 1945.
