Career

Club career

Ludovico Bidoglio was born on February 5, 1900 in the Argentine capital Buenos Aires . He started playing football in 1916 wearing the Sportivo Palermo jersey , initially as an attacker. After an injury, however, he had to switch to defense and held this position until the end of his career. From Sportivo Palermo in 1918 Bidoglio went to the now completely forgotten club Eureka, where he was under contract until 1921.

From 1921 Ludovico Bidoglio was then on the soccer field for the Boca Juniors . His first match for the team from the slum La Boca made Bidoglio in early 1922 against CA Independiente . As a result, the defender stayed with the Boca Juniors until 1931 and made a total of 209 games in which he scored a goal. In a team with players like Domingo Tarasconi , Roberto Cherro or Ramón Muttis , the Boca Juniors were among the defining teams in Argentine football in the 1920s. In the championship, which was still held on an amateur basis, the club was able to secure the title in 1923, 1924, 1926 and 1930. The first of these title wins could be secured in 1923 due to the better goal difference over city rivals CA Huracán . The following year succeeded in defending the title as the first with five points ahead of CA Temperley . After Huracán became champions in 1925, the Boca Juniors managed to win their third title in four years in the 1926 season. This was achieved by taking first place in the championship four points ahead of the Argentinos Juniors . As a result, it was not until 1930 before the Boca Juniors were again Argentine football champions. In the 1930 season, the last on an amateur basis, they ranked five points ahead of Estudiantes de La Plata after the end of all game days and won the seventh amateur championship.

After professional football was introduced in Argentina in 1931, the Boca Juniors secured the first ever championship as part of it. In the Primera División 1931 one was in the end first with five points ahead of the first pursuer CA San Lorenzo de Almagro . For Ludovico Bidoglio this was the fifth championship title with the Boca Juniors in his last season. However, the defender was injured so badly during the season after a clash with Alberto Zozaya of Estudiantes de La Plata that he was unable to continue his career. He announced his retirement at the age of 31 and worked as an electrician until his death in 1970 at the age of 70.

National team

Between 1921 and 1928 Ludovico Bidoglio made a total of 34 international matches for the Argentine national soccer team . However, since the first soccer World Cup was not held until 1930, he missed such an event. However, he had to take part in the 1928 Summer Olympics . At this tournament, the Argentine team reached the final after successes over the USA , Belgium and Egypt , where they met neighboring Uruguay . Against the opponent around director José Leandro Andrade Argentina finally lost. After the actual final ended in a 1-1 draw, a replay had to determine the 1928 Olympic champion in football. In this Uruguay finally prevailed 2-1. Ludovico Bidoglio played for his team in both finals.

Before that, Ludovico Bidoglio was part of two Argentine winning teams at the South American Championships. In the Campeonato Sudamericano 1925 , in which, however, only three selections participated, you finished the round first before Brazil and Paraguay . Bidoglio was a regular player. Two years later, the Argentine team was able to secure the title again, at the tournament in Peru they came first ahead of Uruguay, the host and Bolivia .
