Colón is the capital of the department of the same name in the east of the Argentine province of Entre Ríos . Colón is located on the western bank of the Río Uruguay , which is navigable from Colón. On the other side, a little south of Colón and connected to Colón by the General Artigas Bridge , is the Uruguayan city of Paysandú . In the classification of communes in the province of Entre Ríos, Colón belongs to the communes of the 1st category.
history
The small town, which like many places in Latin America is named after Christopher Columbus ( Spanish : Cristobal Colón), was founded in 1863 by Justo José de Urquiza , Caudillo of Entre Ríos first president of the federal republic of Argentina.

Colón is a tourist center with an upscale hotel structure, a casino and campsites. There are also thermal springs and corresponding wellness offers.

- Palacio San José . The former country residence of General Urquiza, between Colón and Concepción del Uruguay , was declared a national monument.
National park
- El Palmar National Park (approx. 60 km from the city). The El Palmar National Park is a sanctuary for Yatay palm (Syagrus yatay).
