Alfredo Dinis

Alfredo Dinis (* 1917 ; † July 4, 1945 in Bucelas ; underground name Alex ) was a Portuguese communist and resistance fighter.

Career

Dinis was a metal worker at the H. Parry & Son shipyard in Cacilhas . At the age of 19 he joined the communist youth. In August 1938 he was arrested by the PIDE secret police . After 19 months in prison, he moved up to the leadership of the Committee of the Partido Comunista Português (PCP) in Almada . In 1943 he was elected to the party's central committee.

He contributed significantly to the organization of the strike actions and demonstrations that paralyzed the south bank of the Tejo and the capital Lisbon in November 1942, July / August 1943 and May 1944 and were brutally suppressed by the police of the Estado Novo .

On July 4, 1945, on the way to a secret meeting with Joaquim Campino and António Dias Lourenço, he was shot by the PIDE police officer José Gonçalves on a street in Bucelas.
