Alfredo Sáenz Abad (born November 21, 1942 in Getxo ) is a Spanish manager .

Life

Sáenz studied at the University of Valladolid law and at the Universidad de Deusto in Bilbao economics . After completing his studies, he worked as an executive manager for Tubacex SA from 1965 to 1980 . From 1981 to 1993, Sáenz was CEO and Chairman of Banco Bilbao Vizcaya . From 1983 to 1988 he sat on the board of directors of the Bank of Catalonia . He moved to Banco Santander in 1994 , where he was CEO from 2002 to 2013. In April 2013, Sáenz stepped down as CEO.

From 1965 to 1984 he lectured at the Universidad de Deusto.

Condemnation

In 2011, the Supreme Court of Spain issued a three-month ban on Sáenz as a banker. He was convicted of making false charges against alleged Banesto debtors . Santander announced an appeal against the decision and Sáenz was able to continue his work afterwards.
