Ali Al-Naimi (born August 2, 1935 ; Arabic علي بن إبراهيم النعيمي Ali ibn Ibrahim an-Naimi , DMG ʿAlī b. Ibrāhīm an-Naʿīmi ) is a Saudi Arabian businessman and politician . He was Minister for Petroleum from 1995 to 2016.

Life

After leaving school, Al-Naimi studied in the United States at Lehigh University , Pennsylvania . He then moved to Stanford University , California , where he studied geology and achieved a master's degree .

After completing his studies, Al-Naimi got a job in the Saudi Aramco company in 1957 . In the following decades he rose within the management of the company. In 1980 Al-Naimi was elected to the board of Saudi Aramco, whose president he eventually became in 1983; he was the first man from Saudi Arabia to run the company.

In addition to the leadership of Saudi Aramco, Al-Naimi was appointed Minister of Petroleum in the Saudi Arabian government in 1995 . He held this important position until May 7, 2016. The previous manager of the state-owned oil company Aramco , Khalid A. Al-Falih , succeeded him as the new oil minister.
