Ali Chusseinov (born January 26, 1990 ) is an Austrian boxer of Chechen origin. He became Austrian amateur champion, started his professional career at the age of 17 and won the junior world championship titles of the GBC in the lightweight, the IBF in the super featherweight and the WPBF in the lightweight, as well as the European championship of the EBF in the lightweight.

youth

Ali Chusseinov came to Lower Austria with his parents in 2003 , before his father died in 2004 and he then moved with his mother to Villach , where he joined the local boxing club "The Bulldogs" and trained as a metal fitter. As an amateur he became International Austrian Champion in 2006 , before he joined the “Power Boxing Carinthia” club in Spittal an der Drau as a professional boxer in 2007 and was managed and trained by Erwin Mandl.

Professional career

On May 17, 2008 he won the GBC Junior World Championship in lightweight, by knocking out the Tanzanian Omari Ramadan in the 9th round. On December 20, 2008 he won the IBF junior world championship in super featherweight, which he received by unanimously winning points against the German-Syrian Bihes Barakat. Shortly after the fight, however, he was tested positive for THC residues and given a one-year ban, and the fight was changed to a "no rating". Since he would not have been able to defend his title because of the long suspension, he had to resign the IBF title, but three months later he played a boxing match won on points against the Albanian Perparim Hajdini, who also retrospectively revised to a "no rating" due to the suspension has been.

The ban was lifted early one month later, he won his next seven fights in a row by the end of the year and was voted “Fighter of the Year” by the European Boxing Federation . On February 28, 2010 he won against Mohesen Moradian in Vienna by knockout in round 11 and thus became the new European lightweight champion of the EBF and also received the vacant junior world championship of the WPBF .

Due to an unconditional imprisonment, he did not fight a fight between July 2010 and April 2015.

arrest warrant

Since the beginning of 2009, Chusseinov has been suspected of being the leader of the infamous “boxer gang” in Villach, which kept making headlines. The members of the gang, including several boxers with a Chechen immigrant background, are said to have extorted protection money from children and young people, and those who did not pay were beaten. Since the victims of these attacks mostly refused to report or withdrew their statements out of fear, no legal action could be taken due to a lack of evidence, which ultimately led to the formation of a special commission that has since focused exclusively on the crimes of this gang.

In 2010, Chusseinov and several other suspected gang members were arrested after detaining a victim who could not pay and demanding a ransom from his brother. However, until the crime was cleared up, the suspects were released again, Chusseinov was not banned by the boxing association and was allowed to defend his European title in the ring. Even governor Gerhard Dörfler dealt with the incidents and has already submitted applications for the asylum status to be withdrawn for Chusseinov and three alleged accomplices.

In July 2010, the public prosecutor's office finally issued an arrest warrant against Chusseinov, from which he allegedly escaped by fleeing. He himself stated that he had only been to a training camp in Croatia for a few weeks. In May 2011, he was sentenced to an unconditional imprisonment of five years for around 30 crimes committed by his gang and himself.
