Ali Erol

Ali Erol (born 1970 in Esenli ) is a Turkish LGBT I activist and founder of the Turkish LGBTI organization KAOS GL . He was one of the first in Turkey to be openly in a homosexual relationship.

Life

Ali Erol was born in the village of Esenli, which belongs to Mersin. The father was illiterate, Erol said he learned to read and write before he started school. Erol was the youngest child of nine siblings. He attended elementary school, middle school and high school in Mersin. Erol then studied sociology in Ankara.

On February 2, 2018, Erol was arrested by the Turkish police in Ankara . The reason given for the arrest was a tweet from Erol, who expressed solidarity with the TTB medical association and described war as a public health problem. The medical association had expressed criticism of the military offensive on Afrin .

Around 160 German scientists and cultural workers from Austria and Germany signed a call on February 5, 2018 to release Ali Erol immediately.

On February 6, 2018, Turkish media reported his release.
