Ali Yachkaschi ( Persian علی یخکشی English Ali Yakhkeshi ; * 1939 in Behschahr , Iran ) is an Iranian professor of environmental science , environmental activist and author. After graduating from high school, he left Iran to study at the Georg-August University in Göttingen in Germany. Finally, he earned a Bachelor of Science, a Master of Science and a PhD in Natural Resource Management / Environmental Policy from that university.

In Iran, due to his extraordinary efforts and achievements to draw the country's attention to environmental protection - including co-founding an independent research field in environmental sciences at the University of Tehran in 1974 - he is simply known as the "father of environmental sciences in Iran". In the course of his career at the universities of Tehran and Mazandaran, he initiated and carried out numerous exchange programs between Iranian and German forest and environmental institutes, thereby contributing to improving mutual cultural and scientific understanding.

Life

Ali Yachkaschi was born in the village of Yachkasch, a mountain village located in the wooded areas in the south of Behschahr, the province of Māzandarān , in northern Iran. After completing elementary and secondary school and graduating from high school in Behshahr, he left for Germany to continue his education at the Georg-August University in Göttingen. Until his return to Iran in 1967 he helped found the independent research field of environmental sciences and that faculty at the University of Tehran.

His work has been rewarded with numerous prizes and his achievements in education and research in environmental sciences have been recognized several times.

Yachkaschi received numerous awards, for example in 2000 as regular professor at Mazandaran University (2001), the national environmental award (2002) and the golden statue of the Iranian Association of Environmental Researchers / Scientists in 2004.
