Marcus Baumann, Rector of the FH Aachen

Marcus Baumann (* 1955 in Münster ) is a biologist and professor of biotechnology , researcher and rector of the FH Aachen .

Life

Marcus Baumann studied and obtained his doctorate in biology at RWTH Aachen University from 1975 to 1990 . From 1984 to 1995 he worked as a research assistant in the Department of Systematics and Geobotany at the Institute for Biology at RWTH Aachen University, at the Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research in Bremerhaven and at the University of Carl von Ossietzky in Oldenburg and as a visiting scientist at the Flemish University Free University of Brussels (VUB) and during this time made several trips of several months to the Antarctic and the Arctic .

Afterwards, Marcus Baumann was head of the Aachen environmental agency from 1996 to 2002 . Baumann has been Professor of Biotechnology with a focus on environmental biotechnology at the Aachen University of Applied Sciences on the Jülich campus since 2002 . In 2005, the students of the FH Aachen voted Marcus Baumann as the best lecturer at the FH . In 2009 Baumann was elected Rector of the FH Aachen for a six-year term. The term of office was extended for another six years in 2015. In November 2016, the State Rectors' Conference of the North Rhine-Westphalia University of Applied Sciences elected him as the new chairman for a term of two years. In addition, from 2016 to the end of 2017 he was the spokesman for the University Alliance for Applied Sciences ( HAWtech ).

Baumann spoke out several times in favor of strengthening and promoting application-oriented research at universities of applied sciences in order to enable the transfer of knowledge from basic university research to service and product development .

Marcus Baumann is married and has two children.
