Ali ibn Hammud an-Nasir
Ali ibn Hammud an-Nasir ( Arabic علي بن حمود الناصر, DMG ʿAlī b. Ḥammūd an-Nāṣir ;) (? - March 22, 1018 ) was Caliph of Cordoba from 1016 to 1018 .
After the outbreak of turmoil in the caliphate of Cordoba, Ali ibn Hammud an-Nasir, as governor of Ceuta and Tangier, had built a strong position of power between the civil war parties, especially since his brother al-Qasim al-Ma'mun also ruled Algeciras . After the second enthronement of Sulaiman al-Mustain (1013-1016), Ali ibn Hammud made contact with the Berber troops in Córdoba and was able to capture and execute Sulaiman through their betrayal.
With Ali ibn Hammud, the first non- Umayyad came to the throne of the Caliphate of Cordoba. Against this was in Valencia with Abd ar-Rahman IV. A great-grandson of Abd ar-Rahman III. proclaimed caliph. Although he allied himself with the governor of Saragossa and the Count of Barcelona , the Hammudids were able to maintain Córdoba. Ali was murdered by his slaves as early as 1018 . He was succeeded by his brother al-Qasim al-Ma'mun, who had previously been governor in Seville .
