Alice Kandalft Cosma

Alice Kandalft Cosma was a Syrian educator, women's rights activist and diplomat in the mid-20th century.

Life

Alice Kandalft Cosma graduated from the renowned Teachers College at Columbia University in New York . She became director of the Doha National School of Damascus . From 1939 she worked in the Syrian Ministry of Education. She was one of the organizers of the Arab Women's National League in Syria .

In 1947 she was one of the 15 founding members of the UN Women's Rights Commission , which contributed significantly to the formulation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights . She succeeded Angela Jurdak as rapporteur on this body.
