Stewart Robert "Bob" Einstein (born November 20, 1942 in Los Angeles , California - † January 2, 2019 in Indian Wells , California) was an American actor and comedian . He was best known for creating and playing the satirical stuntman character Super Dave Osborne . He won two Emmy Awards .

Life

Einstein was born in Los Angeles in 1942 to a Jewish family. His grandparents immigrated from Austria and Russia . His father was the comedian and radio host Harry Einstein, and his mother Thelma Leeds was an actress and singer. His younger brother is comedian and screenwriter Albert Brooks (born Albert Lawrence Einstein ) and his older brother is a retired boss in the advertising industry.

Einstein began his career as a writer or gag writer on the television show The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour , for which he won an Emmy Award ; he also played the role of Officer Judy on the show. He received another Emmy in 1977 as one of the authors of the Van Dyke and Company show . He celebrated his greatest successes with the grotesque stuntman character Super Dave Osborne . He appeared on various television programs, including a frequent guest on the program Late Night with David Letterman . In 1987 he got his own television show Super Dave , which was broadcast on the Global Television Network in Canada and Showtime in the United States until 1991 ; the show was produced in a Toronto studio. Even after that, he performed repeatedly as Super Dave Osborne until 2013 . In 1992 he also co-produced the animation series Super Dave: Daredevil for Hire , which aired in 13 episodes on Fox . In 2000 he co-wrote the script for The Extreme Adventures of Super Dave , in which he also played the lead role.

Einstein had the recurring roles of Marty Funkhouser on the sitcom Leave It, Larry! (Curb Your Enthusiasm) , where he's been with since 2004, and Larry Middleman's third season of Arrested Development . In Ocean's 13 , he played the father of Linus Caldwell ( Matt Damon ), Robert "Bobby" Caldwell, a master thief and con artist who is a full-time FBI agent. Einstein voiced two characters in the animated series The Life & Times of Tim; namely the elephant in the 2nd season episode Tim & the Elephant and the bookmaker in the 3rd season episode Pray for the Jets . Einstein appeared in the second season of Anger Management as Charlie Goodson's extremely angry neighbor, for which his character in the show got an unfavorable nickname in the form of something that is used for female body care ("douche nozzle", German: shower shower).

Einstein was the first to appear twice on Jerry Seinfeld's web show Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee .

Einstein was a frequent guest on the popular sports radio show The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz in the 2010s . Einstein called on the show as a " Celebrity Predictor " to share his thoughts on sports and other topics. However, Einstein later refused to appear on the show because, mysteriously, several people died shortly after they appeared on the show.

Bob Einstein died of leukemia on January 2, 2019 at the age of 76 in Indian Wells, California .
