Aliecer Urrutia

Aliecer Urrutia (born September 22, 1974 in Placetas , Villa Clara ) is a former Cuban triple jumper .

Urrutia was one of the best three jumpers in the world in the mid-1990s. In June 1996 he improved his personal best in Seville to 17.70 meters.

A week before the start of the indoor world championships , he improved the indoor world record in the triple jump to 17.83 meters at a sports meeting in Sindelfingen and traveled to Paris as a top favorite . In the world championships, however, he then had to admit defeat to his compatriot Yoel García and won the silver medal. He was able to confirm this success five months later with the bronze medal at the World Championships in Athens .

After the 2002 season, Urrutia ended his active career. His world record was set in March 2004 by the Swede Christian Olsson .
