Aliquot
The aliquots (from Latin aliquot "some, a few") are the auxiliary strings and voices of musical instruments:
- Aliquot strings are additional accompanying strings ( sympathetic strings ) in a stringed instrument such as the baryton . These are usually arranged below the actual playing strings and are not stimulated directly by the player, but caused by the playing strings to resonate with them. Blüthner pianos are known for their construction with aliquot strings.
- Aliquot voices (also aliquot registers , overtone registers or auxiliary voices ) are organ registers that do not sound on the struck note or an octave, but on one of its other overtones ( fifth , third , seventh , etc.).
