geography

The beach is located in the urban area of Laguna Beach in the South Laguna district and stretches for several hundred meters on the Pacific Ocean . The Pacific Coast Highway runs above Aliso Beach , where there are driveways and parking lots. The Aliso Creek , which flows into the sea here, limits the area in the north. On the land side rise high cliffs on which houses stand.

Aliso Beach is divided into two sections. The wide sandy beach on the coast is ideal for swimming and sunbathing. At low tide you can walk around in the rocks on the shore and small marine life in the tide pools ( tidepools watch). In the hinterland there is a strip of green through which narrow paths run.

Popular pastimes at Aliso Beach are surfing and skim boarding . The high surf ensures good conditions all year round. Fishing and diving are also allowed on the beach .

history

Aliso Beach played an important role in Orange County 's historical development . The watercourse of Aliso Creek , the surrounding wetlands and the towering coastal mountains were once a natural obstacle for people passing by. This area marked the border between two Indian tribes . The Juaneño lived south of the dividing line , while the Gabrieleño settled the north.

Crossing the site became easier when a certain Mr. Thurston had the Aliso Canyon Trail and the Old Coast Wagon Trail created . Over time, Aliso Beach has become a popular resting place. Since 1949 parts of the beach have been owned by Orange County . In the early 1970s, a 180-meter-long pier was built on Aliso Beach . However, after storm damage in 1998, the structure had to be demolished.
